Yurak Yacu Community Center Update April 2008

Funding for the larger project is trickling in but not enough yet to start formal construction. However, we have an agreement with the local "Usarios de Pastos de Llaca", a group of 19 families who keep animals in a Quebrada behind the Inn, to use a small adobe building 10 minutes away to start the social projects.

This kind donation of space will allow us to start organizing English classes, early childhood stimulations sessions and possibly programs for guides and cooks who work in tourism.

A volunteer group from World Challenge, UK, will be here in August and they will work with community people to finish an adobe extension on the back of the building and work with kids and parents. They have been involved since 2004 in projects in our area.

We are looking for donations of educational materials both of the didactic type and general supplies, tables, chairs, white boards, volunteers, paint and some building supplies.
